By using this site or placing an order you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not order. Nothing here takes away any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, or any other South African law.

Allergens and ingredients

Please read this one properly.

Our products are made in a small kitchen where nuts, dairy, garlic and other common allergens are handled. We cannot guarantee that any product is free of traces of an ingredient used elsewhere in that kitchen.

If you or anyone you are buying for has a food allergy or intolerance, contact us before you order. Tell us what you need to avoid and we will tell you honestly what is in the batch and whether it is safe for you. The ingredient list on the physical label is the authoritative one — always read it when your order arrives.

Storage and shelf life

These are handmade preserves made in small batches. Store them as the label on the jar directs — some products need refrigeration once opened — and use them by the date shown. Once an order has been delivered, keeping it properly stored is up to you.

Prices and payment

• All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR) and exclude delivery, which is added at checkout.
• Klein Begin is not a registered VAT vendor. No VAT is charged on your order and we cannot issue a VAT tax invoice.
• Card payments are handled by Payfast. You are taken to their secure environment to pay, and your card details never pass through our site.
• We may change prices at any time, but never after you have placed an order — the price you paid is the price that stands.
• If a price or product detail is obviously wrong through a genuine error on our part, we will contact you before charging you or dispatching, and you may cancel for a full refund.

Placing an order

When you check out you are making an offer to buy. The confirmation email you get straight away is an acknowledgement that we have received your order, not yet an acceptance of it. A contract between us comes into existence when we dispatch your order, or when we tell you we have accepted it.

We may decline an order — for example if we cannot make the batch, if the delivery address is outside where we can send, or if we suspect the payment is fraudulent. If we decline after you have paid, we refund you in full.

Please give us a correct email address, phone number and delivery address. Most delivery problems start with a typo.

Stock and availability

We make in small batches, so things do sell out and some products are seasonal. If something you have ordered and paid for turns out to be unavailable, we will contact you and you can choose to wait for the next batch, swap it for something else, or take a refund on that item. We will never quietly substitute a different product.

Delivery and collection

• We deliver within South Africa only.
• Delivery is charged at a flat R130 per order for parcels up to 4.7kg. Above that, an extra R30 per kilogram is added for the additional weight. This is worked out automatically at checkout, so you see the full delivery cost before you pay.
• Free collection is available from Bothasig, Cape Town. Choose Collection at checkout instead of delivery and no delivery charge is added. Collection times are 9am to 11am, or 5pm to 7pm. We will contact you with the collection address to confirm a day and a slot once your order is confirmed.
• We will let you know when your order has been dispatched and pass on the courier’s tracking reference.
• Once a parcel is with the courier, the delivery timeframe is theirs rather than ours. We will chase them on your behalf if something goes astray.
• Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery, or when you collect your order. If a parcel is confirmed lost in transit before it reaches you, that is ours to sort out — see Refunds & Returns.
• If a parcel comes back to us because the address was wrong or nobody could be reached, we will gladly resend it, but the second delivery charge is for your account.

Returns, refunds and cancellations

These are set out in full on our Refunds & Returns page, which forms part of these terms. In short: anything damaged, spoiled or incorrect on arrival is put right within 7 days; genuine quality defects are covered for six months under the Consumer Protection Act; orders cancelled before dispatch are refunded in full; and because these are foodstuffs, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns.

Your account

An account is optional — you can check out as a guest. If you do create one, keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your login. Tell us if you think someone else has got into it. We may suspend or close an account that is being used fraudulently or abusively.

This website

We try to keep product descriptions, prices and photographs accurate, but we do not warrant that everything on the site is complete or error-free at every moment. Colours and jar contents can look different on a screen to how they look on a table.

Recipes on this site are offered in good faith as suggestions. Adapt them to your own kitchen, and to anything you need to avoid.

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site, or any product, at any time. We do not promise the site will always be available or uninterrupted.

Our content

The Klein Begin name, logo, label artwork, photographs, recipes and written content on this site belong to us. You are welcome to share a link or a recipe with credit. Please do not copy our content, branding or product photography for commercial use without asking first.

Liability

We stand behind what we make. If a product is defective, unsafe or not as described, your rights under the Consumer Protection Act apply in full and nothing here limits them.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from the use of this site or of a product used other than as intended or as the label directs.

Links to other sites

Where we link to somebody else’s site, that is for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

Privacy

How we handle your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which also forms part of these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published here when you place an order is the one that applies to that order.

Governing law and complaints

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.

If something has gone wrong, please come to us first — email kleinbeginpesto@gmail.com or WhatsApp 084 722 2585. We would much rather hear about it and fix it. If we cannot resolve it between us, you may refer the matter to the National Consumer Commission.
