Who we are

This site is operated by Klein Begin Pesto & Products (“Klein Begin”, “we”, “us”). Our website is kleinbeginpesto.co.za.

This policy explains how we handle personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). If anything here is unclear, email us at kleinbeginpesto@gmail.com and we will explain it properly.

What we collect, and why

We only collect information you give us, or that your browser sends automatically when you visit.

• When you place an order — your name, email address, phone number, delivery address and the contents of your order. We need all of it to take the order, get it couriered to you and talk to you if something goes wrong.
• When you create an account — a username and password, plus the details above so you do not have to type them again. An account is optional; you can check out as a guest.
• When you email, phone or WhatsApp us — whatever you choose to tell us, kept so we can answer you and refer back if you contact us again.
• When you simply browse — your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you looked at and where you arrived from. This is standard web-server and analytics information.

We do not collect special personal information, we do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not buy personal information from anyone.

Payments

Card payments are processed by Payfast. When you pay, you are handed over to Payfast’s secure environment and your card details are entered there, not here.

We never see, receive or store your card number, CVV or banking login. All we get back from Payfast is confirmation that a payment succeeded or failed. Payfast handles that information under its own privacy terms and the applicable card-scheme rules.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of cookies:

• Essential cookies — these remember what is in your basket and keep you logged in. The shop cannot work without them.
• Analytics cookies — we run our own first-party analytics to count visits and see which pages and products people actually look at. It tells us how busy the site is, not who you are.

We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share your browsing behaviour with advertising networks. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though the basket and checkout will stop working properly if you block the essential ones.

Who else sees your information

We share the minimum necessary, with the people who help us run the shop:

• Our courier — your name, delivery address and phone number, so they can deliver and contact you.
• Payfast — the payment amount and reference, to process your payment.
• Our web host and email provider — who necessarily store the site and its messages on our behalf.
• SARS or another authority — where the law requires it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade our customer list. Some of the services above may process or back up data outside South Africa; where that happens we rely on providers who are subject to comparable data-protection obligations.

Marketing

We will send you the emails needed to complete your order — confirmation, payment and delivery updates. Those are not marketing and you cannot unsubscribe from them while an order is in progress.

We will not add you to a marketing list without asking. If we ever do send news or seasonal announcements, every message will carry a working unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and ask us to stop.

How long we keep it

• Order and invoice records — at least five years, because tax law requires it.
• Account details — until you ask us to close the account.
• Emails and enquiries — usually about two years, so we have context if you come back to us.
• Analytics — kept in aggregate; it is not tied to your name.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

• ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
• ask us to correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
• ask us to delete information we no longer have a legal reason to keep;
• object to us using your information for a particular purpose;
• withdraw consent to marketing at any time.

Email kleinbeginpesto@gmail.com and we will deal with it. We may need to confirm who you are first, so that we do not hand your details to somebody else. There is no charge for a reasonable request.

Note that we cannot delete records the law obliges us to keep, such as invoices for completed orders, until that period has run out.

Keeping it safe

The site runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, access to the shop’s admin is limited and password-protected, and card details never reach our systems in the first place. No system is perfect, but if a breach ever affected your personal information we would tell you and the Information Regulator, as POPIA requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page. Material changes will be obvious rather than quietly slipped in.
